Gemini Sculpture at Beymen Ternsane Istanbul - Miguel Rodrigues

about this project

GEMINI is a 26-metre suspended sculpture commissioned for Beymen Tersane Istanbul, the flagship store designed by OMA, within the redevelopment of the historic Ottoman shipyards on the Golden Horn. Suspended above the central space, the sculpture establishes a conceptual dialogue between Lisbon and Istanbul—two historic port cities whose identities have long been shaped by water, maritime trade and cultural exchange.

Stretching across the interior like a suspended horizon, GEMINI evokes a wave, a bridge and a passage. Its fluid form reinforces the architecture's spatial rhythm while appearing to drift through the building, echoing the movement of the Bosphorus and the site's enduring relationship with the sea.

Installed within one of Istanbul's most significant contemporary architectural projects, the work becomes a symbolic link between two maritime cultures, bringing together architecture, history and contemporary sculpture.
